Cover Letter

My aim in this class was to do well and I focused to get a good grade in class. I have learnt a lot in this class; different ways in writing and how a blog is written. This blog made me become part of the topic I was talking about. It made me feel like a reporter. I enjoyed doing my blog because it made me get into the topic which got me in a habit of watching news and reading about the Oil Spill. This blog has changed the way I think and has made me elaborate and give my opinion in this accident that took place.

In the first four blogs I had done, it made me research more about the incident of The Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I watched news and read so many articles about this incident. All my blogs were somehow related to each other as I had given small descriptions of topics I was going to talk about. I went back and edited all the blogs, corrected their grammar and added few points to them. In the Oil Spill at the Gulf of Mexico: I added a small paragraph about how the public should act and contribute by donating a little for the wildlife and the incident that took place. I also added a video which showed pictures of the incident and also tells us how everyone’s contribution will be used. In the health problems arising I added a paragraph that talks about the effect of the carbon monoxide and how it is dangerous to on. I also mentioned about how locals can be affected and how they should protect themselves by using filters. In animals in danger I just added a few lines on how cattle on land can be in danger and what ways should be followed for them to be protected.

Along with my four blog posts, I added two more blog posts that is similar to my previous blogs. One of them is the new oil leak discovered which basically talks about how a new leak in the pipe was found and how the government should react to this situation. The second new blog post is about wedding problems which talks about how the wedding industry is affected as many people have cancelled their wedding plans on the beach which is also affecting tourism. I have added a few videos and pictures so as to make my blog more informative about my topic. Being and International Student this class has been really effective as it has made me improve my writings. It has made me have a good knowledge about a topic. I learnt new styles in writing which would be helpful to me in future.

Wedding Industry Affected Because Of Oil Spill

The wedding Industry is also said to be affected because of the Oil Spill that took place at The Gulf Of Mexico. Many weddings were planned next to the beach and many preparations had already begun. After the major oil spill many have backed out which have made people loose money as they had spent a lot on the preparations.

June Watkins, a non-denominational minister normally does 40 weddings a year and most of them are during the summer, but now she has no reservations. A fear of severe headaches being caused because of the smell is brought up.People should understand that the government and BP are trying their best to solve this accident. People should stop being picky and they should hence plan their weddings at other exotic places.

There is a lot more than beaches in this world and since nothing can be done now because of the oil spill they should accept the fact that beaches wont be a good idea. The weddings can still be organist near a beach but then the ceremony preparation can take place away from the beach. The hotels nearby should send workers to clean up the oil washed away on the beach so that at least when the tourists come they can relax on the beach but not go in the water.

New Oil Leak Discovered.

A new oil leak was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico and research states that the oil has leaked five times more than before. The government is not serious in this accident, it is too slow in controlling this issue. Since the oil pipe is made of steel , the government should start repairing the leaks then start cleaning the oil. It makes no sense of cleaning as the oil will still be leaking.

The government should weld the pipes in water temporarily so that they can clean up the oil and hence after that they can repair the pipe. This will be an easier way and will be cheaper. If not it should try reducing the leak size on the pipes so that very little oil would leak as they clean up the ocean.

The affect of the Oil spill on local seafood industry.

Local seafood restaurants have been said to be affected because of the oil spill that happened on the 30th April 2010. More than 400 species are in danger because of the spill. Fishermen hence cannot fish and this is affecting the seafood restaurants as they are not getting food from them.
Seafood prices have increased in the local market as their is a shortage of seafood due to the oil spill. Many seafood restaurants are importing seafood from difeerent states which is costing them alot of money. The government should quickly take action and clean up the water as restaurants are losing out on food.

If there is a shortage of food in the restaurants then no client will hence come. This affects tourism also. The seafood industry should test all their seafoods and make it clear to the public about how fresh and safe their foods are because it is troubling alot of customers and tourists as they keep asking if the food is safe.
Bp should pay partly of the import fees of the seafood as they are managing the oil crisis. The food and drug administration should test all food stuff coming into the market so as to stop any illness that is caused because of the oil.

The video shows how restaurants and the seafood industry is affected because of the oil spill:

Animal's In danger as Oil spreads across the Gulf of Mexico.

The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is continuing to spread and most of it has reached the shores. This has put animals in danger both in water and off shore. Research says that more than 400 animal species are in danger. The oil rig that exploded is said to be spilling over 200,000 gallons each day, invading the homes of these animals and affecting their health drastically.

Mammal like the dolphins and whales are said to be in danger when they come in and out of water to inhale and exhale. The oil and the toxic gas can affect the skins of these mammals and put their lives at risk The government should start organising for places where these animals can make new homes. Dolphins and whales should be captured and put in habitat protection areas.

It is estimated that about 30 sea turtles have been found dead on shore. Marine experts should take these dead animals in labs where they can find the cause of their death. This will then give them an idea on what action they should take.Pelicans have also been soaked in oil on shore which has stopped them from flying, floating on water and taking care of their babies.
This is a serious problem; the team of marine experts should save the animals at the same time that they are cleaning up the spill in order to increase efficiency. The babies should also be put in habitat protection areas. The animals should then be fed and taken care of so that they stay healthy.

The cattle on land are also affected as they drink water while grazing across farmland. Farmers should give treated water to their cattle as this will keep them away from any illness. The animal rescue team should inject most of the cattle so that they remain healthy and don't get sick.

The government needs to put more money into sending marine experts, both on-shore and off-shore animal protection, as well as for the clean up efforts .

The video shows how these animals are affected because of the oil spill.

Health problems arising as BP burns large quantities of oil.

Health problems have started to rise as BP burn huge amounts of oil. This will affect thousands of workers near the spill because of the toxic gas that is being released. Safety precautions for the workers are being decided as this is one of the nation's greatest environmental disasters.

The burning of oil on the surface of water has increased the creation of toxic gas that is estimated to affect about 2000 workers on board. The health factor of these workers should be taken seriously as it is a risk to life. Medication and food should be organized at all times for the workers and the residents who live close to this incident. This is because the gas produced can cause lung problems as the people inhale the carbon monoxide.

Carbon Monoxide is harmful because when inhaled it removes the oxygen in the blood and hence affects the brain and heart as blood with less oxygen will be flowing. This can cause one to suffocate and lose consciousness.
Paramedics should be present at all times during the cleaning process as one can get injured as the burning of oil take place. Transport facilities to hospitals should also be organized so that if any injury takes place one can be taken to the hospital quickly.

Doctors should also be available off shore so as to assist the residents staying off shore who can be affected by the toxic gas. Healthy foods should be organized for the residents because most of them are fishermen and due to the oil spill they can't get food. Special oxygen masks should also be made so that the workers can use it during the clean up process. This will make them inhale very little amount of the carbon monoxide and will keep them safe.

Even though the burning of oil causes health problems also the water transported in locals houses will be a risk.Since the water is used by humans, everyone should buy filters and fix them on taps so as to stop diseases to occur because of the oil. Large companies use the sea water to get salt. Salt is used so much in the food industry. The salt should also be tested and treated well so that it is safe for the body.

The government should find an alternative method to transport oil. This will reduce major accidents like this. Either road transport or air transport would be the best alternative method to transport oil. This will be an advantage as it will be a faster way to transport the oil. There wont be also any issue about cleaning of oil in water hence no pollution and no one gets sick.

The video below talks about health problems that may arise as BP burns large quantities of oil.

Oil Spill at the Gulf of Mexico

The natural resource is an essential portion of life on this planet whether we refer to human, plant or animal life on land and in the water. Recently, humans have been interfering with the life beneath our waters, harming them severely. On April 30th 2010, an oil tanker exploded and spilled over 798000 galons of oil. This has been the worst oil spills in the history in the United States. It has led to a lot o pressure on the Minerals Management Service team. The president of the United States has already sent a team to investigate about the accident.

The head of the Mineral Management Service; Elizabeth Birnbaum who was in charge of administering programs that ensure the effective management of renewable energy, resigned due to the pressure caused by this incident. This will not be a good idea as she knows how to handle crisis like this than for a new head taking over who does not have any experience.
BP, who is also managing this situation suggests the use of hoses of the manifold that were used for the 'top kill' so as to retain the oil and gas from the ocean. The use of hoses will be a good way to clean up the oil as it will suck most of the oil from the water.

The government should check all of their oil tanker vessels and service all their mechanical parts so that a problem like this can never happen again. New oil tanker vessels should also be made, as most of them are old. The government should start the production of large barrels which can be used to hold up huge amounts of oil during the clean up process. This process should start quickly so that we can recover most of the oil spillt rather than losing it.

People should start donating a little for the workers who are trying to help clean up the oil, for the wildlife and for the people who have lost their jobs like the fishermen. With this the government will raise money and most of the expenses will be handled well.
Since BP is managing this situation , it should consider about people living close by this accident and they should compensate the people's losses. It should hire the fishermen to help clean up the oil as this will help them get some income.

The video below talks about the Oil spill on the Gulf of Mexico and how it will be taken care of.
